Kent Jones found guilty of murder
A Sherburne county jury deliberated for 13 hours before finding Kent Jones guilty of the 1992 murder of Linda Jensen.
The verdict, delivered Saturday, was met with relief by the Jensen family. The judge sentenced Jones, who was convicted of first and second degree murder and first degree sexual misconduct, to life in prison. Jones showed no emotion during the sentencing.
Jensen was found on Feb. 24, 1992, in her bedroom where she had been beaten, stabbed and raped. A tip offered to the Sherburne County sheriff’s office in the summer of 2000 led them to Jones, a neighbor of the Jensen’s.
Teen, 16, assaults girlfriend, police
Police arrested a 16-year-old St. Cloud boy Friday after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and three St. Cloud police officers.
The teen, who is being held in Stearns County Jail, is expected to be charged with domestic assault and three counts of fourth-degree assault against a police officer.
The arrest followed a report by a woman claiming she had been assaulted by her boyfriend. Police who responded to the report were attacked by the boy, who injured one of them. The officer was treated and released from the St. Cloud Hospital.
