Much like some of the other people that have written on this subject, I too am sick and tired of hearing about how all the schools, in particular, UND, need to change their mascots and school logo to something less offensive.
If you ask me, a school has the right to have whatever it wants as its mascot or logo. No matter what the school or professional team uses, someone will always be offended. There is no way around this.
People are offended by the simplest of things in this country and many of them use the threat of suing if their ideals are not accepted.
I think that right now there are more important things to worry about in this country than some logo that represents a Native American. There are so many other problems that are more important than some logo. So if people would see this, maybe then and only then could people complain about trivial issues like these.
I also think that the student government in all their infinite wisdom would see this. There are more important things that should be taken care of on this campus, like the ever present parking issues or any number of the others that affect SCSU.
Many of these symbols are hollow and have no more meaning than the school or team they represent. Yes, they should have more meaning than that, but they don't and won't. We are not UND, they are their own entity and can handle this on their own. Why must we get involved in their fight, when we have our own problems right here.
