This letter is in regards to the cartoon in the Dec. 6, 2001 edition of the (University) Chronicle and the generally feeling about parking on campus. SCSU is not a strip mall. A University is not where you drive around and find the closest parking spot to the door. I feel that students on campus sometimes forget that they have two legs. Granted, I know that it really is an inconvenience that you have to walk half a mile to get to class, but sometimes you just have to sacrifice. Do people not realize that we have public transportation? I think that the public transportation system in St. Cloud is one of the finest and easiest things to figure out. Do people not have bikes anymore?
A bike costs about $90 at Target and this is a lot cheaper than your cars which costs thousands of dollars and you would probably get there faster.
If we were to have parking lots in front of each building, I feel that it would make the campus look ugly. A big parking ramp would be wonderful, but it most likely be down in Q-lot, and you would still have to walk a half mile to class. College students are always complaining about not having enough money.
They are always complaining about Public Safety who gives them tickets and this adds a lot of stress to their lives. Students need to realize that they have two free legs that they can use that are stress free. As I walk through Atwood, I hear students complaining about having to park their car a mile away from Stewart Hall. In case they didn’t know, the bus comes right next door to Atwood, which is about 100 steps from the front door of Stewart.
