Sara Jane Olson gets 20 years to life
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge sentenced Sara Jane Olson to two consecutive terms of 10 years to life Friday for her role in a 1975 bombing plot.
Moments later, Olson was arraigned on a murder charge that could carry an additional life sentence. The alleged member of the Symbionese Liberation Army pleaded not guilty to the new charge against her and continued to downplay her role in the bombing attempt.
Judge Larry Fidler released the $1 million in bail money for the bombing plot but imposed a new bail of $1 million for the murder charge.
Bomb hoax forces Florida-bound jetliner to make emergency landing
A bomb hoax forced a passenger jet flying from Britain to Florida to divert to Iceland Saturday.
The Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 had taken off from London’s Gatwick Airport about 6 a.m. EST and was en route to Orlando, Fla. The aircraft landed safely at Keflavik Airport at 12:26 p.m. EST.
A message containing a bomb threat had been found by a crew member in the plane’s toilet. A Civil Aviation Authority spokesman in Iceland said all 322 passengers and 18 crew on board were safe.
