Michael Moore presentation rescheduled

Disappointment felt by SCSU students, faculty and staff and the St. Cloud community will be relieved Feb. 7 as writer/producer/director Michael Moore will give the presentation originally scheduled for Nov. 12.

Moore’s trip to Minnesota was postponed after the crash of American Airlines flight 587 in New York closed all flights from the city the day he planned to fly.

Kyle Haiman, UPB’s Film Committee coordinator, said Moore’s presentation should be the same thing he had planned in November. Moore will speak and show clips from his films, including his newest. He will answer any questions from the audience following the presentation, and there will be a book signing reception.

Haiman said finally getting Moore to SCSU was work that will be well worth it.

“We just kept working through the process and contacted his agent again,” Haiman said. “We put dates in that worked for us and he had to pick which one worked best for him.”

Haiman said the way his committee worked together during a time that could be stressful for an organization like UPB made him proud of the group.

“We worked really hard after (the cancellation) happened. As long as our director has been here, we’ve never had something this big cancelled. It’s unfortunate that it happened, one I wish hadn’t happened, but it’s a learning experience as well.”

One big struggle the group still has to face is getting the word out about the rescheduled date.

“We are really pushing our PR this time,” Haiman said. “A lot of stuff is going up (this) week to get word out. We may even visit classes if we need to.”

The rescheduling of the show doesn’t have Haiman or UPB worried about ticket sales, though.

“Tickets are going again,” Haiman said. “Obviously, whenever you reschedule something you are concerned about ticket sales.”

Tickets are at UPB or the Atwood Info Desk and are free with an SCSU ID.

Moore will give his presentation beginning at 8 p.m. Feb. 9 in Kimberly A. Ritsche Auditorium.
