Twins may still play in Minnesota

The Minnesota Twins, who have been in danger of becoming extinct, may be allowed to stay. The Minnesota Supreme Court could decide to hear the case and rule on the caser.

The Minnesota Court of Appeals upheld an injunction Tuesday that requires the team to play for the 2002 season. The ruling will now be appealed to the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Spring training begins in mid-February for all baseball teams. Right now it is unlikely that a decision on contraction will be made before training starts. The two teams that are in danger of being disbanded are the Twins and the Montreal Expos.

In November, a Hennepin County judge ruled that the team could not simply buy out the last year of their lease. They must field a team for the upcoming season.

Fingerhut has third possible buyer

St. Cloud Mayor John Ellenbecker will meet with a third prospective buyer for the Fingerhut corporation this week.

Federated Department Stores, which owns Fingerhut, closed a Minnetonka-based store, Jan. 16. Now, the St. Cloud factory is in danger of being closed unless a buyer can be found.

The city of St. Cloud would also like Jesse Ventura to participate in the sales talks. They are hoping that he will be able to persuade Federated to sell the St. Cloud Fingerhut.
