Car smashes into building

Media Credit: Michael Martin/Managing Editor

City inspector Karen Breeden and a building manager put plastic up after a teenage boy who did not have a driver's license crashed a car into the window of apartment No. 3 at 1610 Michigan Ave S.E. Sunday afternoon.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred at about 4:15 p.m.

The 16-year-old boy, whose name was withheld by police, was driving a Lincoln Continental registered to Alfonso Benitez, 25, of St. Cloud.

The boy told police that he could not stop the vehicle as the brakes had failed. He was cited for driving without a license.

Benitez was cited for allowing unlicensed operation of his vehicle and for not having insurance.

Both apartments No. 1 and 3 were deemed unsafe to occupy.
