Storm dumps snow across Texas

On Tuesday a rare winter snow storm caused problems for many people in the Dallas area and other parts of Texas.

Over 200 flights were cancelled at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. Those that were scheduled were delayed at least an hour due to plane de-icing. There was at least one reported death blamed on the unusually snowy conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the average snowfall amount was between one to three inches, but Clarksville in northeast Texas received about nine inches of snow. Parts of Arkansas also got a dose of winter weather when six inches of snow fell there Tuesday evening.

Study shows tanning causes cancer

A recent study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute Wednesday showed that people who have used tanning beds in the past are more likely to develop skin cancer.

More than 600 cancer patients were interviewed in the study as well as 540 control subjects. During the interview they were asked whether they had ever used tanning devices. The reports showed that those who had used tanning beds were 2.5 times more likely to develop skin cancer. That figure rose to 3.6 times more likely in people who had used them before age 20.

Researchers involved in the study are now suggesting that tanning salons be closed to minors.
