NBC won't be coming to St. Cloud
The crew of the 'Today' show was scheduled to arrive today in St. Cloud for a live broadcast of weddings at the Stearns County courthouse.
The NBC morning show had originally planned to televise one wedding nationwide from the Stearns County Ceremonial Courtroom where Judge Richard Ahles will marry more than a dozen couples. However, scheduling problems led the show to cancel their arrival.
At least three television stations from the Twin Cities are still expected to show up. They will be showing segments from the wedding ceremonies on the Thursday evening news.
City of St. Cloud buys land for park
The St. Cloud planning commission authorized the city Tuesday to buy 41 acres of land near the Mississippi River.
The plan is to build a regional park on the land near 33rd Ave. S. The idea is to preserve the environmentally important areas around the Mississippi River. The cost to build the park is estimated at $615,000. The city hopes to receive a grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for part of the money. The St. Cloud city council still needs to give their approval on the project.
