SCSU protesters demand change

More than 60 protesters showed up outside of Halenbeck Hall for the game between SCSU and the University of North Dakota.

The protesters message to the visiting school was to discontinue their use of the the American Indian nickname and logo. The first protest about this issue was during a hockey game last fall. SCSU President Roy Saigo has asked the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association to ban the use of American Indian nicknames, but as of right now UND is still the only school in either conference to bear such a name.

Next weekend the protesters plan to travel to to Duluth where UND will play Minnesota-Duluth in hockey.

St. Cloud workforce center to move

The cramped space at the Minnesota Workforce Center in St. Cloud has prompted officials to consider moving the office to St. Cloud Technical College.

The current office is located in the Midtown Square Mall and moving it to the technical college would provide more space and the ability to share resources such as receptionists and computers. The technical college has put in a grant request for $700,000 to the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System to design an addition to the computer careers and health science laboratory already at the college. The remaining space would be remodeled for the workforce center.
