D.B.'s under 21 night successful
It is said that if you build it, they will come.
Tom Emer created it, and they came. D.B. Searle's opened its doors for a first 18-plus night Wednesday, and the house rocked.
On stage was the Fargo-based band 24Seven. Through three sets and plenty of ecstatic fans, the band rocked the fans.
"We really enjoy playing for them (the 18-plus crowd)," said lead guitarist Jason Brekhus. "This is really a lot of fun and we hope to come back."
Come back they will. After the turnout and positive reactions that Emer saw, he plans to do it again. Originally the plan was to hold this night and see what happened and then decide whether or not to do it.
"It was pretty good for the first one," said Emer. "I plan on doing it again March 6."
24Seven played an array of songs from Blink 182, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Alien Ant Farm, Green Day, Ozzy Osbourne and Led Zeppelin.
With the crowd's reaction, 24Seven knew that they were a hit.
"The crowd was awesome," said Brekhus.
"I really enjoyed this crowd," said bassist Travis Atwood.
The crowd enjoyed the band as well too. Several people joined the band on stage to sing along.
For those who missed the night, the band will return again March 6.
Emer originally decided to try this 18-plus night after observing that the outlets to the18- to 20-year-old college crowd was very limited in late night activity. Emer has had 24Seven play at D.B. Searle's before. He thought that offering a live band would be just the right idea.
Formerly in St. Cloud, the places to spend late night activity for the 18- to 20-year-olds were limited.
Places such as First Street Station and the Rox offered late night dancing alongside the 21 plus crowd. However, the music was usually DJ music and not a live rock atmosphere. The only place that has live rock is Java Z, where the shows don't occur too often.
Emer hopes this option will give the younger crowd a place to go and not get into trouble. He also hopes that they will return when they are 21 to D.B.Searle's.
24 Seven hopes so too.
"Everyone was great," Atwood said. "We really can't wait to come back."
