Magic to speak

Those looking for a little winter "Magic" will get just what they want Tuesday as former NBA star Magic Johnson takes the podium at 8 p.m. in the Halenbeck main gym to speak to SCSU students, faculty, staff and St. Cloud community members.

Nikki Elston, graduate assistant for UPB and adviser for the speakers committee said she and speakers coordinator Eric Whitman are looking forward to having the sports star and entrepreneur on campus. The committee has been working since December on the preparations for Johnson's arrival.

"We get a lot of books and promotional items for speakers and (the committee) came across Magic Johnson," Elston said. "They like to bring in some national speakers. Not a lot of sports figures have come, so they went for someone we haven't brought in before."

Having a nationally known speaker is good for SCSU's reputation, Elston said, because Johnson's arrival here is causing a stir in the media even in the Twin Cities.

Tickets are available at the Atwood Info Desk, in the UPB office or at the door.
