| Students skied and snowboarded their winter blues away at Powder Ridge Friday in a trip that concluded UPB's Snowdaze 2002.
Snowdaze ran Feb. 11 through Friday and included a variety of free indoor events for students from psychics to showing the film "Serendipity."
In a final attempt to combat winter blues and embrace the season, UPB Special Events Coordinator Marla Moore took 45 people to Powder Ridge for skiing, which was $12, and snowboarding, which was $14.
"There were 50 slots available, so 45 people signing up is a pretty good turn out," Moore said.
The trip began at 3 p.m. and transportation was provided to student skiers and snowboarders alike. According to Moore, there were a fairly even number of both on the trip.
"I would say there were more skiers, but a lot of snowboarders showed up too," Moore said.
According to Janet Peterson, UPB Spotlight Coordinator who was also in attendance, a lot of people on the trip were trying snowboarding and skiing for the first time.
"This was a good opportunity for the people who have never done this before to get out there and give it a try," Peterson said.
Mike Miller, a senior and travel and tourism major originally from Luverne, signed up for the skiing.
"It was a fun time," Miller said. "There were a lot of people and just a really cool atmosphere."
The weather, which has been dubbed "mild" by local meteorologists, may have also contributed to the day's success.
"The weather was just awesome," Miller said. "It was a little slushy, but awesome."
When contemplating the success of Snowdaze, Peterson names the trip to Powder Ridge as being one of the best liked events.
The feedback Moore got from students who attended the Powder Ridge trip would encourage her to include it in future winter programs.
"I talked to a lot of people on the trip Friday and they thought it was great and they would like to do it again," Moore said.
Miller agreed.
"Heck yeah I'd do it again, it was a fun time and a good way to meet people," Miller said.
