Spring may bring higher gas prices
An ample reserve supply of gasoline has kept prices at the pump low all winter, but that may change soon.
Analysts say that prices could rise as early as mid-March because refiners will be switching production from winter-grade to summer-grade fuel to accommodate the busiest driving season of the year. Cameron Beutel, Publisher of the Hanover daily energy newsletter, expects gas prices to be up about 15 cents between March 15 and Memorial Day.
Egyptian train bursts into flames
A train carrying hundreds of passengers on their way to a religious holiday started on fire after leaving Egypt's capital Wednesday.
Officials reported that the fire was caused by a cooking gas cylinder that burst and sent flames rushing through the last seven of the train's 11 cars. The fire was put out hours later as high winds hampered the efforts of firefighters.
About 373 bodies were pulled from the wreckage. Authorities do not expect the death toll to rise much above that.
The incident is still under investigation because the gas cylinder that burst would normally be found in a dining car. The train had no such car. It is suspected that some of the passengers may have brought their own portable gas cookers along, which is illegal.
