ISA Spring Festival presents cultures for free
How about taking a world tour in just four hours this Saturday?
As usual, the International Student Association has something to offer to us this spring.
International Student Association will present a big international event: spring festival events from countries all over the world with a theme as "We are the World."
It will take place Saturday in the Atwood Ballroom. The ballroom doors will open at 3:30 p.m. The guests of honor will be President Roy Saigo and Dr. Chunsheng Zhang, center for international studies director.
The event will include various cultural performances from around the world. Over 20 different countries will be represented. Food booths will be set up and people will get to taste the international cuisines and flavor.
Students may taste Momok-Nepalese dumplings, which Nepalese Student Association will serve. Attendees may also try Malaysian, Chinese and Pad Thai food, among others.
Attendees can also buy artifacts from the booths set up by different nations.
The attendees can learn the calligraphy of one's name in different languages. Performances will include Belly dance, Chinese fan dance, Nepalese songs and dances, skit of the life of Gautama Budhha, Indian dances and songs, Karate, fashion shows.
China, India, Sri lanka, Tibet, Malaysia, Nepal Japan, Lao, Vietnam and Hmong cultures are just a few of the cultures that will be represented at the festival.
"Spring Festival is held annually during spring semester where by all international student organizations of St. Cloud State University come together as one big family and share the various rich cultures around the world," said Tsering Dolma Tuladhar, President of International Student Association.
Tuladhar said this event is held for St. Cloud Community as a whole and for SCSU students. And it is the time where we see unity.
The event attributes much to the funding from the student government.
"Spring Festival wouldn't be possible without the monetary support of the finance committee of the student government, International Student Association wouldn't be able to organize such events," Tuladhar said.
Entrances and events are free for all. Tuladhar said this is so more people can share and learn from each other as a learning experience. Instead of just getting to know one culture, you get to know different cultures.
There will be exciting and surprising programs for the audience, too, which Tuladhar declined to reveal right now.
Two best booths will be chosen from all the participating student organizations.
"Spring Festival is an annual event organized by International Student organization which draws over three hundreds people. This tradition should go on for years to come," Tuladhar said.
Mark your calendar this Saturday and be sure to check out the exciting events that International student has in store this spring. Anybody who is interested can contact International Student Organization or ask at the information desk in Atwood today and Friday.
