Ganny must resign
Fellow students, the Student Government is the governing unit of our student body. Every year, we pay the members of this organization over $22,000 in salaries alone to represent our interests on this campus, around the state, and in Washington D.C. Additionally, we pay their travel expenses to conferences, hotel accommodations, and any other costs that they may accrue while representing us. The government's total budget exceeds $40,000.
When dealing with such large sums of money, we deserve leadership we can trust and depend upon. The surfacing of Student Body President Shaje Ganny's intentional lying to protect discloser of his irresponsibility during lobby day (University Chronicle, Feb. 21) raises some interesting questions and leads to only one conclusion.
First, is President Ganny fit to hold the position of student body president?
We pay him $5,000 a year; the LEAST he can do is be honest with us. Clearly he feels he doesn't need to be. By lying he shows a complete lack of respect to the people who elected him and pay his paycheck.
Secondly, being that he lied to us at lobby day we must wonder what else has he lied about? Will he do it again? One can only presume the answer to both questions is yes. Luckily, in this circumstance some students knew the truth and came forward. How many times in the past has no one come forward?
Thirdly, we must use this situation to examine the job President Ganny has done since assuming office and started receiving his paycheck. For the money we pay him, each of our lives should be made better. Has that happened? Has the money that you contribute to his salary made your experience at St. Cloud State any easier?
Under his leadership, the most tackled issue has been UND's "Fighting Sioux" mascot. What about the issue of parking you promised, in your campaign, to address? What ever happened to the list you asked the fraternities to give you of their concerns last year while you were attempting to gain their votes? The promises he made during the campaign have not even been attempted to be fulfilled.
After examining all these questions, the only clear answer to this situation is for President Ganny to resign.
