Muslim-Hindu violence continues

Many people were frightened to leave their homes Sunday in Gujarat, India, after numerous attacks by Hindu nationalists saw 14 people killed.

The violence began on Wednesday when Muslims attacked a train full of Hindu passengers and set it on fire. The 58 people who died sparked retaliation attacks by the Hindu nationalists.

Since then, the violence has spread beyond the Indian state of Gujarat into other parts of the country. Members of both religious groups have been stoning each other in the streets of Aligarh and a street vendor was stabbed to death. So far, the number of deaths resulting from the attacks is around 500.

Evidence of floods found on Mars

According to evidence found by the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft, water flowed across the surface of Mars much more recently than previously thought.

It was once thought that water had once been a part of the planet's surface about three billion years ago. Now, scientists studying the new images have discovered that giant floods had swept across Mars about 10 million years ago, which is recent in geological terms. The new evidence also points to a large frozen lake that may be less than 50 feet below the surface in an area near the Martian equator.
