Ganny, defended

Wow, Mr. Johnson. I must say, I find your letter (University Chronicle, Feb. 28) and logic more than a little "interesting." Actually, I can't remember if I have ever read a more self-serving and thinly veiled attempt at personal promotion than your letter.

Let us, for a moment, compare President Ganny's performance so far this year to the president of last years Student Government. I find it interesting that last year, when a president was accused of misrepresenting his office in a letter to a national newspaper, making incredibly offensive comments towards and being insensitive to the concerns of a large number of students, student groups, faculty and staff, nothing happened. Yet when this year's president errs in judgement (which I strongly feel that he did and disserved both students and members of the governing body), but in a way much less serious than any of the actions taken by last years chair, Mr. Johnson feels compelled to call for his resignation? Where's the logic here Mr. Johnson? I'm wondering if there may be another reason for your criticisms. Perhaps your plans to run for Student Government president next year might have something to do with your apparent concern?

While I am in no way condoning what President Ganny did, I have a hard time arriving at the conclusion that his actions warrant a resignation. While I do not feel the need to defend President Ganny, nor do I wish to do so, I do feel that I should say that, as a student, I have dealt with President Ganny on many occasions and have seen him hold student interests in the highest regard. He has always treated myself and others involved in an issue with respect, listened to all sides, and given fair and equitable treatment whenever I have worked with him. I have no doubt as to his commitment to students and know from my personal experience that he works hard every day for us and our campus community.
