In light of recent events surrounding the override of Gov. Ventura's veto, it is becoming more and more clear that both the democratic and republican parties are not working in the interests of Minnesota, but in the interests of reelection and party majority.
The petty actions of both sides in forming a short-term budget fix, which is still many millions short of balancing the budget, is indicative of the lack of fiscal responsibility in the House and Senate. Drawing down the reserve fund with no way to replenish it, avoiding the needed increase in taxation for fear of alienating voters: both are clear signs of self interest and political pandering. At least the governor has the courage to say what needs to be said and own up to the fact that we need more taxes/fees if the state is to pay down its debt without wholesale cuts in programs. It is too bad his message had to get lost in his foot-in-the-mouth statement about patriotism.
