No action taken against letter writers
SCSU will not take action against a former and two current professors who wrote to high school counselors discouraging minority students from attending the university.
Lisa Foss, SCSU director of marketing and communications, said Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system officials had looked at various laws and the contract agreements for faculty. They then forwarded information on the issue to SCSU administrators.
"Ultimately, it was up to the university," she said. "It is my understanding (the university) is not going to pursue anything in this issue."
The letters were written Feb. 15 by Myrle Cooper, former professor at SCSU who retired in 1998, Michael Davis, associate professor of teacher development, and Tamrat Tademe, associate professor of human relations.
New congress member represents city
St. Cloud became part of the 6th congressional district and gained another representative in a redistricting exercise announced Tuesday.
U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson from Detroit Lakes already represents this region. Two incumbents, Mark Kennedy (R-Watertown) and Bill Luther (D-Brooklyn Park) will battle for the new seat this fall.
Residents of St. Cloud will vote with Benton, Sherburne and Wright counties and most of Stearns county. Suburbs in Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington counties are also included in the 6th district.
