Woman may be pregnant with clone
According to a report published by the Gulf News in the United Arab Emirates, an Italian scientist claimed that one of his patients in a cloning project is eight weeks pregnant.
If the report is found to be true, it would be the first time a woman has carried a developing cloned embryo. The experiment began in February when 10 couples were selected for the project. Pending the truth of the rumor, many bridges still need to be crossed. Cloned fetuses in animals have been found to be subject to high rates of spontaneous abortion and in-womb defects. The same may be likely to occur with human cloned embryos.
Neither the Italian scientist, Dr. Severino Antinori, or his partner, Kentucky-based fertility expert Dr. Panayiotis Zavos, would comment further on the matter.
Car bomb explosion leaves 12 dead
A car bomb that exploded Sunday in the entertainment district of Villavicencio, Colombia, killed at least 12 people and left more than 60 injured.
The blast, which occurred around 1 a.m., is suspected to have been caused by the country's main rebel group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. No one from the group has yet claimed responsibility for the action. Local police have issued a $7,000 reward for anyone who can identify the attackers.
