The issue: Tuesday is the application deadline for students interested in running for Student Government.
What we think: More students should get involved in Student Government.

Less than three weeks from now, SCSU students will be voting for other students to represent them in Student Government.

The elections on April 24 and 25 will be elections that could make a difference in every SCSU student's college experience.

Student Government officials not only represent students at SCSU, but they also represent SCSU. Student Government acts as the voice of SCSU students. Student Government officials make decisions, listen to student concerns, allocate student activity dollars and help lead student activities.

Students who care about the price and/or quality of their education should at least vote in the upcoming election. Students who wish to enhance their educational experience or who believe there is room for improvement at SCSU should seriously consider running for an office in Student Government.

The entire Student Government organization is run by students. The purpose is to have students representing students so that their voices can be better heard. Student Government requires students who can listen to individual students and act for the benefit of the student body as a whole.

According to the Student Government mission statement, "leadership and organizational experience will be offered to interested students through Student Government involvement." Involvement could also teach skills in cooperation, communication and teamwork. Last but not least, it could top off a resume.

But, interested students better hurry. Tuesday marks the deadline for applicants to run for office. Mandatory meetings will also take place today and Tuesday. The applications can be picked up in Student Government office in Atwood.

Even though time is running out, it is not too late to become involved in representing the students at SCSU.
