Har Mar Superstar steals the show at Red Carpet Saturday

"It's Saturday night. Let's get another f***ing cheer for partying. . . let's get another cheer for me!" said the uninhibited "sexually-driven R&B" star Har Mar Superstar, who stole the show Saturday night at the Red Carpet.

Har Mar Superstar, whose fans often call him Har Mar for short, was the middle act between Dylan Hicks, a Twin Cities-based local star, and Manplanet, another gem of the Twin Cities' local music scene.

The crowd was apprehensive and filled with curiosities and drunken suspicions. Patrons of the bar minded their business and filled the main room about three-fourths of the way before Har Mar entered the stage.

But then a man who peculiarly resembled porn luminary Ron Jeremy entered the stage. His red judge robe was reflected by the lights as booming beats of his mini-disc of a backup band began, and a surprisingly smooth voice entered the sound system, which enthused influences of Michael Jackson and Paula Abdul.

And from there, the people came flocking to the main stage of the Red Carpet to see what this crazy guy was all about, filling the room to almost full-capacity. The reactions were everything from gasps and groans to laughs of unbelievable hilarity and overall shock and excitement.

The show they saw was a 40-minute set of songs from Har Mar's first album, which is self-titled, and even some new material, which is tentatively titled "You Can Feel Me," to be released October of this year. This concert brought laughs, dances and a huge party with quite possibly the loudest cheers that many Carpet-goers have ever heard.

"I try to make people get crazy," Har Mar said.

And crazy he made them. During the song "Shopping Spree," members of the audience stuck dollar bills in his black briefs, an outfit which he complimented with black velcro shoes. And let's not forget his dance moves which accompany his musical style; touching himself and dancing around, shaking his hips, strutting his stuff like he was Madonna.

But Har Mar Superstar, whose full name is Harold Martin Tillmann (brother of Sha Na Na's Sean Tillmann) is not Madonna, and he's proud of it.

"Give it up for me!" he boasted, after having stripped from the judge robe down to his sexual adornment that was a sparkly, fringed number that consisted of a matching vest and butt-less pants.

But here in St. Cloud is not the only place people love Har Mar. Having gotten his start in St. Paul as a street performer, Har Mar has toured nationally and internationally now that he's gained a decent-sized following. Among his favorite cities in which he performs are New York and Tokyo.

One might ask why Har Mar would chose such a small venue like St. Cloud's Red Carpet when he could be playing Tokyo or New York. But that question can be answered simply.

"They thought the ladies here in St. Cloud needed some sexual attention," Tillmann said brashly. "So, they sent me here."

Along with the glamour and fame that his R&B tunes have given him, Har Mar Superstar has recently run into some legal issues. It turns out that the scandalous sex tape by Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee played Har Mar's music in the background. He's recently begun to sue for royalties.

Sipping on his Budweiser, Har Mar comes back to what it's all really about: the shows, the fans and himself.

"I never really expect anything (from shows, except people). I expect them to freak out about me."
