MnSCU panel suggests consolidation
An advisory panel to the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system leaders recommended that some schools in the system, primarily those in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud and Rochester regions, should be combined rather than closed.
The 33-member citizens commission issued a report Tuesday to MnSCU stating that some institutions might better serve students if they were consolidated under one administration. The report recommended that Minneapolis Community and Technical College and Metropolitan State University be merged.
SCSU and St. Cloud Technical College were also talked about, but their consolidation is unlikely at this point.
Judge denies request from SCSU
A U.S. District judge denied an SCSU request last week to dismiss a lawsuit by three professors and a student claiming discrimination against the university.
Judge Richard Kyle ruled that all the claims would go forward.
Former professor Arie Zmora, current professors Laurinda Stryker and Geoffrey Tabakin, and student Robbi Hoy filed the suit last year. The four claim that there is an anti-semitic and hostile environment at SCSU and are seeking class-action status for the suit.
The university was represented by the Minnesota Attorney General's office.
