God is love
I am writing in response to the editorial claim that "hate crimes are propelled by religious beliefs" and also in response to the person who wrote on a copy of Lavender magazine that, "Not even God likes fags."
I am a Christian living on the campus of SCSU who is disappointed that someone would claim that "not even God likes fags." Clearly they have not read a description on who I believe God to truly be. In fact, God even defines himself as love! He loves all people and, more to the point, he loves all sinners, heterosexual or homosexual.
I think that we, as those who claim to be Christians (aka "followers of Jesus Christ") should show love as God calls us to show it, to all people. All people have inherent value because they are God's own creation. God desires all people to come to know and have personal relationship with him. God accepts and forgives homosexuals of their sins just like heterosexual people.
While the Bible defines God as love, it also says that God is holy, and that because of his moral perfection, he will judge sin in our lives. Since we all have sinned, there seems to be no hope no way for people to be made right with a holy and perfect God. He provides a way by becoming a man in the person of Jesus Christ and then he died for our sins on the cross. All people whether heterosexual or homosexual can trust in Jesus Christ's death (as a substitution) for forgiveness of their sins and for eternal life.
I would claim that the Bible calls Christians to "bind kindness and truth around our necks." Although I do not approve of homosexuality because of Biblical truth, I neither reject them or show them hate. On behalf of many Christians here in the SCSU community, I apologize for the one person who chose to falsely claim that God doesn't like you, for in fact, he truly does.
