SCSU to lose affirmative action officer
Laurel Allen, SCSU's affirmative action officer, will be leaving the university for a position at the State University of New York in Albany.
Allen, recently the target of criticism in a U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission report, will quit SCSU effective May 17.
Lisa Foss, SCSU director of marketing and communications, confirmed Allen's resignation. She said Allen had announced her resignation Monday to President Roy Saigo.
The EEOC report on SCSU said the university lacked credibility in diversity issues. It also said that the affirmative action office was ineffective and that faculty and staff did not trust its appeals process. This was partly due to inadequate staffing at the office.
Two Stearns jail inmates claim rape
Two female inmates held at the Stearns County jail in St. Cloud have claimed they were sexually assaulted by some male inmates on Monday.
The two women, a 45-year-old and a 36-year-old, both from St. Cloud, gave statements to authorities Monday night. They both said that the incident occurred at 10:30 a.m., but one woman claimed that two men attacked them, and the other said that three male inmates were involved. Both women were examined for signs of sexual assault. The St. Cloud Sheriff's Department expected to receive the results Wednesday.
No one had been charged with the crime as of Tuesday night. The incident is still under investigation by St. Cloud police.
