Mayor to speak at commencement

St. Cloud Mayor John Ellenbecker, who took office in the fall, will address SCSU's spring commencement ceremonies May 11 in the National Hockey Center.

Ellenbecker graduated from the William Mitchell College of Law. In addition to his private practice, he has also been assistant county attorney for Stearns and Chisago, as well as assistant St. Cloud city attorney.

Ellenbecker has been working closely with SCSU President Roy Saigo on the Racial Harmony Steering Committee, which he led to provide racial harmony, inclusiveness and equal opportunity in Central Minnesota.

This year's commencement will begin at 10:30 a.m. This year's graduating class has a record 99 international students.

National Guard to pull out of airport

The Minnesota National Guard will pull out of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport next week.

The armed guards will no longer provide added security at the airport after May 10. Soldiers have already been pulled out of the Duluth and Rochester airports and are only stationed at three checkpoints in the Twin Cities.

The National Guard was deployed at airports by President George W. Bush shortly after the attacks on New York and Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11.
