Grad student joins NACA
The National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) is proud to announce St. Cloud State graduate student Kim Bruemmer as part of the Board of Directors. Her term began May 1.
Also part of the University Programming Board (UPB), Bruemmer will have many duties and responsibilities as one of two members of the Board of Directors of NACA. These responsibilities and duties include implementing and reviewing goals, procedures and actions of which the Association is comprised.
"Mainly," Bruemmer said, "(My job is) to be the voice for the students."
Looking at the bigger picture, however, one may ask themselves what NACA is all about.
"It's a way to merge higher educations and the entertainment industry together. That's essentially what the NACA was designed for," Bruemmer said.
NACA also has conferences each year where students from all over the country who are involved in programming and the NACA come together and attend workshops and performances to bring ideas and situations back to their campus to create the best possible environment.
The performances are comprised of lecturers, club acts such as comedians, and main stage showcases such as bands and other big-name acts. When a student likes or dislikes a certain act, they can go back to their campus with ideas that will enliven campus life and enrich campus-related activities, situations and reputations.
The workshops range from public relations to time management to how to make the best of homecoming. Students come back to their campuses with vibrant ideas and marked with the unforgettable experience that NACA allows them to have.
There is even something called CAMP, which is the Campus Activities Market Place. The workshops and performances stir and inspire ideas, whereas the CAMP actually gives information on good acts to bring back to campus.
"I am so excited to be a part of Board of Directors," Bruemmer said. It's (a) next level. So far its' been everything I've expected and more."
Bruemmer has been part of programming ever since she can remember. Because her mother works at UPB, her earliest memories began right here on campus with UPB. It's no doubt that when she came to campus, she got involved immediately. Now she's a proud member of the prestigious NACA, ready to take on whatever challenge comes her way.
"I love every aspect of programming," Bruemmer said. "I just enjoy it so much."
Last year, NACA also harbored a St. Cloud State student, Nikki Elston, who is a program advisor at UPB, as well.
"I think it's great," Elston said of Bruemmer's recent election."It's nice to have SCSU on the board, (and) it's a great learning experience for students who are going in the field of (public relations)."
Bruemmer is now on her way to getting her masters in mass communication. She will continue with her Board of Directors position with the NACA through next year, attending a number of conferences and workshops. She will also be one of the three program advisors at UPB, until she graduates, which will be next may.
Then what?
"I think I'm going to take a break," Bruemmer laughed. "Six years (of school) is enough."
However, Bruemmer is no way near finished with her extensive association with the Midwest. She plans to take leadership wherever she goes. In fact, her dream job is to one day be a part of the student union, perhaps as programming director. Someday, Bruemmer dreams, she would like to be Vice President of Student Life and Development.
"I think it's important to take charge when you need to." Bruemmer said.
