At least 800 jobs saved at Fingerhut in agreement with CompuCredit
Federated Department Stores Inc., has agreed to sell Fingerhut's $1.2 billion receivables to Atlanta-based credit card company CompuCredit Corp. in an effort to save more than 800 jobs with the Fingerhut Companies.
CompuCredit plans to keep the collections employees at the Fingerhut offices in St. Cloud and in Monticello. This equates to nearly half of the payroll still employed with Fingerhut.
The company is a publicly held financial services firm. It issues Aspire Visa cards with a reported net income of at least $2.9 million last year.
Marshall woman arrested in the death of a grocery store infant

A 24-year-old Marshall woman has been arrested and charged in he death of a newborn baby found in April, 2001, in a grocery store.
Stacy Kay Miller has been charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the connection of the death of the baby boy. She is currently being held in the Lyon County Jail with bail set at $75,000 with a court date for July 8.
The baby was born in the grocery store bathroom and left alone. When he was found by the stores employees, he was dead. An autopsy later showed he had been born alive.
