Freaky monster chases summer away

Autumn, like a freaky monster, is being chased away by the fast-dissolving summer that this season has been.

Some may scream and run from fall, as if it were green and nasty and full of germs.

But I say, bring on autumn, because I am ready for everything it may introduce.

Summer is great, don't get me wrong. I love warm weather and the shining, inviting sun rays that scream freedom louder than skin cancer.

The freedom is the main thing that is really going to get me about going back to school. Being that I am not taking summer classes, I have the choice, on days that I don't work, to do whatever I want whenever I want.

But at the same time, there is something embracing about autumn.

Though the academic work can be encumbering beyond human tolerance, there's not a better moment than the moment of discovery, where a sparked thought becomes an engulfing ocean of intellectual flames, and life is forever burned with influence.

Academia is so complained about, but so valuable and so beautiful. No matter the length of challenge and intimidation, it is completely worth while in the long run.

Scholastic experience is not the only reason that autumn is so wonderful.

For instance, the weather is absolutely gorgeous. The sun, reminiscent of summer, beats down on us with smarmy heat, and the next minute, a flirty breeze tickles our toes, open from summer's shoe collection, with a nagging reminder that winter is on its way. That contrast is just so incredibly inspiring.

As spring's sibling, fall is often comparable to spring.

Spring is a carefree season, where there are new chances to rebuild what was lost over the winter. This can mean anything from grades to your lawn.

As spring's sibling, fall is a comparable season, where new opportunities arise, and anything is possible. The autumnal state of mind is an open and fresh state of mind, where spirits are like a clean canvas, and a picture is yet to be painted.

Or, at least mine is.

I really anticipate this fall. It will give me a chance to exercise everything that I learned this summer.

This summer, I learned a lot working at the University Chronicle. And everything that I learned can not only be applied in a technical way, improving my profession in many ways, but all I learned can also be applied to some of life's many philosophies.

Patience is a big one. Spending 15 hours in the same office in the same 24-hour span is quite draining, and learning not to be frustrated with it is helpful in ways that go beyond my time at the office.

Another useful quality in life and at the Chronicle is sense of humor. Those hard nights of misplaced pictures and wordy articles don't seem so hard when all we can do is laugh at the situation. No matter how frustrating or tough a situation is, it's so much easier to tolerate with an installation of a joke or a witty remark.

Though fall is something I truly adore, it will not be easy. With working enough at Sam Goody to be able to pay my bills, on top of taking 14 credits and having editorial duties here twice a week, I am going to need a good laugh, and the ability to take a deep breath and handle a situation responsibly.

And luckily, I have the inspiring, autumnal state of mind ahead of me, where anything is possible, and new, valuable thoughts and attributes are incited frequently.
