Historic Stillwater prison destroyed by fire, arson suspected

A fire that has destroyed the entire Stillwater Prison Tuesday night is believed to be arson.

The Minnesota Territorial Prison was destroyed and authorities are looking for three young men to question. The suspects are believed to be three young white makes in their late teens or early 20s who were last seen leaving the area shortly before the fire was reported.

Flames were seen 100 feet in the air and smoke could still be seen the next morning as far away as Hudson, Wisc. The prison was built in 1853 before Minnesota reached statehood. Currently part of the building was used as a museum.

SCSU implements new smoking regulations efforts for the better

Effective yesterday, SCSU has implemented new smoking policies that have been revised and are effective campus wide.

The new policies are in conjunction to making living healthier on campus. Smoking is not allowed indoors anywhere on campus except in the Apocalypse room in Atwood Memorial Center.

Also, each building will have its own designated smoking areas outdoors and smokers are prohibited from lighting up anywhere closer than 50 feet of most buildings. Tobacco sponsorship and advertising are also prohibited.
