Bill Cosby bringing humor to Halenbeck
Bill Cosby scheduled to bring his world reknowned comedey act to SCSU’s this November to celebrate family fun
In hopes of kicking off UPB-sponsored “SCSU Family Weekend” with wholesome ambition, Bill Cosby is set to charm and entertain large and diverse audiences at Halenbeck Hall.
Bill Cosby is best known for his humorous and parental role in ‘The Cosby Show,” which a very successful sitcom that remained in the top 20 television shows for an impressive eight years after its launch in 1984.
He has also recorded 21 comedy albums, created the “Fat Albert” cartoons, and has written a book, “Fatherhood,” which has sold over 2.6 million copies.
SCSU is proud to be graced by Bill Cosby’s presence.
“We have wanted Bill Cosby for about three years,” said Nikki Elston, program adviser for University Program Board. “We’re just delighted that he’s coming.”
Ryan Meints, concerts coordinator for UPB, agreed.
“He’s probably the biggest performer ever to come to campus,” Meints stated.
Halenbeck Hall has the capacity to seat 4500 people each show and Bill Cosby is scheduled to perform twice November 8. With one performance at 6:30 p.m. and the other at 9:30 p.m., UPB forecasts all 9000 seats to be sold.
Members of UPB have commented on the copious amounts of calls and inquiries from people all over campus and the surrounding community. In fact, UPB received up to 100 calls a day when the information was first released.
KCLD, Charter Communications and St. Cloud Times are all responsible for advertising to the public. They have been regularly running advertisements, and the shows will, without a doubt, be sold out by November. Other sponsors include Residential Life and the University Program Board at SCSU, Leighton Broadcasting, TCF Bank, Resource Training and Solutions, Cellular 2000, Creative Memories, The Bernick companies, O’Hara’s and DMR Video Production.
“Mainly we’re catering this towards families of SCSU students (and residents),” Elston said.
Tickets for SCSU students are $22 for reserved floor seats, $18 for reserved bleachers, and upper level general admission seats cost $14. For all non-students, an additional ten dollar charge is added to the ticket price.
The public can also buy event tickets for Saturday, November 9, the remainder of Family weekend. The tentative schedule includes continental breakfast, a speech by SCSU President Roy Saigo, various family sessions and courses throughout the day, and several activities, including a Husky hockey game, Atwood Rec Center activities including a showing of the film “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” and additional evening entertainment that has yet to be announced.
No matter the turnout, the events in Family Weekend are anticipated to be very successful.
“It’s a way to meet people and find out what’s going on around campus,” Elston said.
