Minnesota Twins clinch American League Central title in Cleveland
The Minnesota Twins grabbed the AL Central title Sunday in a 5-0 win over the defending champion, the Cleveland Indians.
On the list for contraction as of last November, the Twins had extra pressure to perform at their best this year.
Denny Hocking hit a two-run single in the seventh and Matt LeCroy had a sacrifice fly in the sixth for the Twins. Kyle Lohse pitched several strong innings, considered some of the best of his career. He allowed two hits, no runs and struck out eight.
Death of two-year-old prompts homicide investigation of mother
The death of a two-year-old girl has prompted the Hennepin County police to investigate further.
The girl, Xuan Mai Huynh, was found in a vehicle on Thursday afternoon in south Minneapolis. She was airlifted to Children's Hospital, where she died early Friday morning of blunt force head injuries.
Her 26 year-old mother has been taken into custody, but has not yet been charged.
The case is being treated as a homicide.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner and the Minneapolis police are continuing their investigation.
