The issue: Should college students live alone or share a living space with one or more other students?
What we think: Rooming with other students is a necessary and worthwhile experience that allows people to adjust to tolerating the differences between individuals.
Many can say that they have had a variety of experiences living with people. Whether you live in a 13 x 11 size dorm room, or a spacious house, sharing a living space with one or more individuals is mandatory for getting the most out of the college experience.
College is all about preparation. It prepares you for your first job, the "real world," and dealing with people on more and more advanced levels all the time.
Rooming with other people prepares one for dealing with the various ways that people work. Dividing cupboard space, sharing a bathroom and coping with sleeping and studying habits are all part of an intricate system of togetherness.
Whether or not two or more people can adjust to one another's habits and ways dictates how life will be in the tenure of their connection. The adjustment is the most important part of the rooming experience, as the ways in which people will learn how to deal with each other will prepare them to adjust to people's habits and ways in various other aspects of the "real world."
Rooming with others prepares people for romantic relationships, as well. When two or more people live together, they are forced to figure out how the other one works and how to communicate with one another so the experience is better. If you are in a relationship, communication is mandatory. Without good communication, or any communication, the relationship will not last.
The work world, as well, can be prepared for by living with others. By living with other people, as previously stated, communication is key. Communicating in the work place is key, as well. Everyone has a different background and has had different experiences. Common ground must be found between people in order to get the most out of the connection. The connection between people in a workplace dictates how the team will be, like in a newspaper or a factory. Communication really is key.
