Violinists professional, professor plan fall performance
By Crystal Meyer
Classical music fans and music artists alike are waiting in anticipation for Sept. 21, when SCSU will host a classical music recital.
The recital, which is to be held in Ruth Grant Recital Hall in the Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m features an SCSU professor as well as a professional pianist.
Assistant professor Marion Judish, violinist, will join guest artist Horatio Nuguid, concert pianist, for an evening of classic literature that will include works by Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy, Brahms, De Falla and Monti.
Judish is the assistant professor of violin and viola at SCSU. Judish received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Minnesota.
An avid music lover, Marion started playing piano at an early age, but quickly fell in love with the sound of the violin instead.
“The violin has always been my passion. I used to sneak around playing the violin before I was old enough to take lessons,” Marion said.
Today Judish serves as concertmaster for the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, which she has been a part of for the past sixteen years.
She is also the concertmaster for the Amadeus Chamber Symphony and has played as a soloist many times for both musical groups.
Nuguid, who will accompany Judish in this musical concert, is a well-known name to many ears as he has captivated audiences worldwide.
Nuguid has reigned in Asia and North America with his uniquely beautiful piano music.
As a student in Manila, he won first place in the National Music Competition for Young Artists. He has also performed in a number of national and international piano competitions where he has received various awards.
Currently Nuguid lives in Minnesota and is a teacher and solo performer of chamber music.
SCSU students who are fans of such classical pieces played by musical artists such as Judish and Nuguid, look forward to the Sept. 21 concert where admission is free and general audiences are admitted.
Among those students waiting with anxious ears is SCSU senior Jennifer Jensen, 24.
“I’m really excited to see Marion Judish and Horatio Nuguid in concert,” Jensen said.
“ It’s great to see classical music represented on SCSU campus.”
Judish seems to share similar thoughts, as she continually tries to get her students involved in performances on campus as often as possible.
“Orchestral groups are a great venue for my SCSU students who need more places to play,” Judish said.
As a musical artist herself,Judish said that dedication is the key to success.
“An artist’s life involves the deepest level of understanding, hearing, doing, giving and being,” Judish said.
