FBI monitoring suspected Al-Qaida terrorist cells in Minneapolis
The FBI is monitoring several suspected terror cells across the U.S., including Minneapolis.
Based partially on U.S. intelligence and information from Al-Qaida members in custody, terrorism experts believe that there are several dozen suspected terror cell members who are U.S. citizens who underwent terrorist training in Al-Qaida camps in Afghanistan in the late 1990s.
State Public Safety Commissioner Charlie Weaver said that he is aware that "there may be an investigation into a possible terrorism cell" in Minnesota, but declined to elaborate.
85-year-old woman thwarts robbery attempt with her cane
An 85-year-old woman from New Kensington, Penn., beat a would-be robber with her cane and prevented the robbery Monday.
The woman, who declined to give her name and refused medical treatment, became angered when the would-be robber started scaring the cashier of a store in the town.
The woman told the police, "That poor child was frightened and I wasn't going to let that happen."
Witnesses said that a man grabbed the cashier by the wrists at the store and threatened to cut her with a metal can opener. He later tried to use the can opener in attempt to open the register.
The elderly woman began beating the man on the head with her cane and he fled, knocking her to the ground. Witnesses said she had "choice words" for the man and his actions.
