Latest game releases do not disappoint

This fall, gamers are being blessed with a plethora of gaming goodness. Gamecube, X-Box and Playstation 2 are all dishing out anticipated new titles.

Mario Sunshine: Gamecube

After a long wait of six years, the gaming public is finally given a true sequel to Mario 64. Nintendo pulled a risky move by not launching the Gamecube with its multi million seller Mario. Even worse, quality Gamecube titles have been fairly sparse.

Fortunately, Mario comes through with flying colors and surpasses any hopes and expectations gamers might have with director Shirigeru Miyamoto’s innovative ideas. Like the name suggests, Sunshine takes place in a vivid tropical atmosphere. Mario’s main companion is a water jet pack. It is used in a variety of interesting methods. They include: destroying enemies, flying, and offering advice.

The visual element of this game is simply mind-boggling. The graphics are basically unparalleled to any game on the market right now. However, what really makes Sunshine so great is that it’s just fun to play. It is easy to lose yourself in the amazing graphics, hundreds of missions, providing hours of enjoyment. Yet, it always remains varied and there is never a dull moment along the ride.

The only problem with Sunshine is the camera system. At times you may want to bash the controller against the wall because the camera won’t go where you want it.

Still, this problem is minor compared to the overall excellence of the rest of the game. Mario Sunshine is reason enough to own a Gamecube. No gamer should miss out on this experience.

Madden 2003: Playstation 2

Along with another football season comes another excellent Madden football game. Along with standard improved graphics, more plays, and increased franchise mode, Madden goes online this year. Fans will now be able to play against someone else across the state, country, or even world. Now you can play against a real person and not blame your loss on the “cheating” computer.

The only disadvantage is that you have to buy an online hookup for the Playstation. Still, it is worth it because there are a myriad of games going online for the station in the near future.

There is also nice new training camp where you can train simulations and get tips from Madden himself. As for the bad, occasionally, some pretty unbelievable plays can happen. Also, Madden’s endless drunken babbling comments can really get on your nerves.

Overall, Madden 2003 comes back with the same formula that has given it such tremendous success over the past decade. Like always, this games two-player quick match will put you in some great matches against your friends that will leave you holding a grudge for a week.

If you buy one football game this year make sure it’s Madden.
