Baghdad defies U.N. resolutions Iraq has announced that Baghdad will not abide by any unfavorable new resolutions adopted by the U.N. Security Council in the continuing weapons inspections.
Iraq had said last Monday that it would accept inspectors "unconditionally." The new statement is viewed as a strong opposition to any new U.N. resolutions including the threat of military strikes on Iraq. There is also disagreement over the weapons inspection regime and the oil-for-food program.
The United States, with the help of Britain, has called on the U.N. to issue a resolution threatening Iraq with war should they not comply.

Madelyne Gorman Toogood will face a charge of battery to a child. Police in Mishawaka say her 4-year-old daughter was with Toogood when she turned herself in. Officials say that the girl has no visible signs of injury. She is expected to be placed with a temporary family.
Toogood, who is said to have cooperated with authorities during a one-hour interview with investigators, was transferred to the county jail for booking. She posted bond and was released.
Authorities have been searching for Toogood since Sept. 13 when the attack occurred in a parking lot outside a Kohl's department store when Toogood was placing her child in her car seat. She is believed to have been angered over not receiving a cash refund for her merchandise.
