Men’s golf holds their own

The SCSU men’s golf team hosted the Husky Invite last weekend at St. Cloud Country Club. Two SCSU teams participated in the event and finished in third and fourth places.
Freshman Chris Little carded the low Husky score on the Red team with an impressive 76, which put him in fourth place on the overall leader board. The Husky Red team scored an overall 316 in the first round and was alone in third place Sunday.
Erik Winter had the low score for the Husky Black team with an opening round 77. His score was good for a two-way tie for fourth place on the individual leader board and helped put the Husky Black team in fourth place overall with a team score of 323.
“All of the scores were high because of the weather but everybody had to play in the same weather so we had as good of a chance as anyone,” head couch Judy Larkin said.
The Husky Black team was able to improve on their Sunday score with a 318 on Monday. Chris Little was able to repeat his good performance for the Red team with another 76 on Monday for a combined total of 152.
With that score Little finished in third place on the individual leader board just two shots off first place Jon Lauzon of MSU, Mankato.
Overall, the Red team didn’t improve on Sunday’s score as they posted a team total of 319 on Monday. The overall score of 635 was not good enough to catch first place MSU, Mankato (609) who edged out second place SDSU by a stroke. The Red team was able to hang on for third place.
Larkin expressed disappointment in the scores for the two teams.
