Lisa Pung, a senior social work major at SCSU, RumRunners, Minuteman Press and Pack & Mail are hosting a benefit for the Jimmy Hendrickson recovery fund from 9 p.m. until close at RumRunners Spirits & Brew Club in downtown St. Cloud.
It is an 18+ event with a live DJ and a $5 cover charge.
It is also 50/50 night with $.50 taps, $.50 cheeseburgers and $.50 fries.
Jimmy Hendrickson, 30, was involved in a terrible fire accident in his New Orleans home in March, receiving third degree burns on over 40 percent of his body.
“(Officials) are unaware how (the fire) started, but they believe it was started by an electrical spark,” Pung said.
With his life being tragically altered, Hendrickson left New Orleans and returned to Richfield, MN, to recover with his family.
“(Hendrickson) used to work at a five-star hotel as a chef, but can’t now because of his condition,” Pung said.
The accident has been a financial disruption for Hendrickson and needs desperate help from the community to help send him back to New Orleans so that he may rebuild his life again.
“At this point, he is not sure what he’s going to be doing once he gets back down (to New Orleans),” Pung said.
Hendrickson is Pung’s boyfriend’s brother and wanted to help him out along with friends and professors at SCSU.
She had the idea to do the benefit and called Brad Ireland, owner of Rumrunners, who said he was more than willing to help out.
“Everyone has been really supportive and willing to help out,” Pung said.
Pung anticipates on having at least 100-200 people come to RumRunners. Her goal is to raise $1,000 with a donation box at the door.
Will Hendrickson be making a possible appearance?
“I’m not sure yet,” Pung said. “He is still in critical condition and the smoke and crowds might not be good for him. But we’ll see.”
