FBI to investigate doll hanging
In Valdosta, Ga., three white students painted a doll black and hung it from a schoolyard tree. So far it has prompted calls from parents and the local NAACP that the FBI should investigate the act as a hate crime.

Lowndes High School officials suspended the students for five days, calling the incident a stupid and embarrassing prank. Principal Ann Rodgers said students found the doll hanging from a tree last Thursday, then took it down and turned it in to school officials.

Students also discovered the letters "KKK" scrawled in a restroom, which has since been closed for painting. A junior and two repeating freshmen were responsible for the hanging, Rodgers said. The students, whose names were not released, had no history of disciplinary problems. They will be transferred to the system's alternative school at least until the end of the semester in December.

Bali nightclub bombing kills 187
Two bombs exploded and killed an estimated 187 people Saturday on the island of Bali.

Fears are growing that al-Qaida has taken its terror campaign to the world's largest Muslim country. Many of those killed in a nightclub district on Bali island Saturday were Australians as well as other foreigners from Canada, Britain, Germany and Sweden. Two Americans were killed, while three others were among the more than 300 injured.

No one has claimed responsibility for the bombings which is being considered the worst terrorist attack in Indonesia's history. However, more suspicion turned to al-Qaida and an affiliated group, Jemaah Islamiah, which wants to establish a pan-Islamic state across Malaysia, Indonesia and the southern Philippines. It is accused of plotting to blow up the U.S. and other embassies in Singapore.
