Staff Report
The Huskies soccer team dropped to 2-3 in the NCC after falling to North Dakota 3-1 Friday in Grand Forks.
Sioux forward Stephanie Pfeiffer scored three goals over an 11 minute span to give UND a solid lead that would prove to be the difference.
Outshot 24-15, Huskies goalkeeper Stephanie Brendel played well despite the three goals allowed, as the first two of Pfeiffer’s scores came on back-to-back penalty kicks. Brendel played all 90 minutes, recording eight saves in the effort.
Heidi Westrum ruined Sioux goalkeeper Ashley Salberg’s bid for the shutout as she scored off a corner kick at the 86 minute mark with the assist to Jenny Ganser.
The score was Westrum’s eighth goal of the season, giving her a team-leading 18 points.
Next up for the Huskies is an away game at Minnesota State, Mankato next Saturday.
This match could be a pivotal game for the Huskies from a conference standings perspective because Mankato is 3-2. A win for the Huskies could tighten things up in the NCC.
