Fire damages boats in Hastings marina
A fire Sunday afternoon at a marina in Hastings destroyed dozens of boats.

Authorities say the fire started around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at King's Cove Marina in Hastings. Firefighters were spraying water from the Mississippi River to fight the blaze. They contained the fire around 7 p.m.

According to published reports, the fire started accidentally when someone used heat to shrink plastic wrap around a boat.

Billowing smoke forced authorities to close Highway 61 at the high bridge in Hastings, where it meets Highway 10 on the east side of the Mississippi River. No injuries have been reported.

Two dead in murder-suicide
Residents of a Maple Grove neighborhood are still on edge after a murder-suicide Saturday morning. The shootings happened around 9 a.m. Saturday. Police evacuated several blocks for hours while swat teams moved in.

According to neighbors, a man walked up to the house and within 10 minutes after police officers surrounded the area they started evacuating people. According to police, the man shot and killed another man inside the house. The woman who lives in the home told police the shooter ran into a shed. Police weren’t sure if the suspect would start shooting again, so access was not permitted to the neighborhood.

Four hours later they went into the shed and found that the shooter had killed himself.
