The SCSU women's hockey team dropped to a 1-6 overall record on the year with three consecutive losses on the east coast this past weekend.
Friday night found the Huskies in upstate New York pitted against Niagra University. Things started off well for the Huskies as sophomore forward Melanie Pudsey put the Huskies up 1-0. Pudsey was assisted by sophomore Carrie Holldorf on the play. Niagra answered back 20 seconds later to tie the game at one with a goal by NU's Jennifer Goulet. Niagra would add another goal late in the period to go up two. The second period belonged to Niagra as they added six unanswered goals to go up 8-1. The third period saw Husky head coach Jason Lesteberg pull first-year goaltender Brie Anderson in favor of junior Ellen Brinkman. Brinkman was perfect in the final frame stopping 12 shots. But it was too little, too late as the Huskies fell, 8-1.
Saturday evening found the Huskies playing Mercyhurst College. MC's Samantha Shirley pumped in the first goal of the night. The next score didn't come until the third period, when MC's Britney Millar added a second goal. Shirley would add an empty-net goal later in the period to help Mercyhurst to a 3-0 win. Senior goaltender Laura Geiselman was near perfect in the loss, stopping 35 of 37 shots.
The two teams met again on Sunday afternoon. The game got off to a quick start as MC's Jessica Dillabough scored the first goal of the game 4:27 into the game. Mercyhurst added another goal in the second period to go up 2-0. The third period also remained scoreless until late when junior Roxanne Stang lit the lamp for the Huskies, scoring with 1:11 left. Stang was assisted by senior Erin McNamara and freshman Krista Simonson. Mercyhurst completed the sweep however, 2-1.
