Treats make good eats

Today is Halloween and many of you will be having those spooky parties. What’s a party without some spooky food?

Dead Fingers — These are a shortbread cookies that look like fingers. Pipe the dough (use a bag without any tip to get a finger sized cylinder) onto the cookie sheet. Using the dull side of a butter knife, make lines suggesting knuckle and wrinkles, and add an almond for the fingernail.

I found the unblanched variety look particularly creepy. You can add a bit of red icing to create a bloody finger. This gives a new twist to the term “finger foods”.

Tombstoned biscuits — This recipe is a nice treat. You will need icing sugar, rectangular biscuits and a toothpick. Take the icing sugar and mix with hot water until fairly runny. Dip each biscuits into mixture and place onto a foiled tray. Take toothpick and carve “R.I.P” out of the icing on every biscuit.

Place in refrigerator for a few hours and presto: your very own mini tombstones.

Pumpkin Cake — Bake two cakes in bun pans. Place the two cakes together bottom to bottom. Frost with orange frosting made from food coloring.

The pumpkin face is made of pieces of a Hershey’s Chocolate bar cut into triangles for eyes and nose. Set a chocolate frosted cupcake at the top as the stem.

French Friend Eye Balls — Ingredients: Relish and 2 potatoes.

Mash the potatoes and mold into balls. Cook in 320-degree oven 20 minutes. When done, spread the relish over the potato balls and enjoy.
