MnSCU appoves statement revision

The MnSCU Board of Trustees recently approved the revision of its mission and vision statement.
"It's more of a refinement," said Lisa Foss, director of marketing and communications for SCSU. "It was shortened to be more meaningful. "
Now, instead of being a couple paragraphs long, it is only a couple sentences.
The mission/vision statements should be revised every five years and it has not been changed since 1996.
The process of revising the mission is long there are two, one-day meetings held for the task force, which was held two Fridays two weeks apart. The task force has 35 members and is composed of union representatives, faculty, administrative representatives, one dean, one vice-president, and a student representative. Foss coordinated the meeting and made arrangements for the group.
After a rough draft is created, the community's input is needed.
"Over a week's time, we had four community response sessions," Foss said.
The sessions were held at all times of the day. These sessions were highly publicized and everyone was invited to respond. Those who were not able to attend any of the sessions responded online.
Input was also needed from SCSU Foundation Board and President's Community Advisory Council. The final decision was made by the MnSCU board of trustees to approve the statements.
"The process is long to ensure it's representative of the entire members of the campus community," Foss said.
"Part of strategic planning is to develop objectives," she said. "The mission statement is generally used as a purpose statement who we are, why we exist."
The vision statement focuses on the future and what SCSU wants to achieve.
"What the documents will serve as is our goal. The outcome will be the fulfillment of those statements," Foss said. "Our number one priority is the education process."
