NDSU is final foe for Glowatzke and SCSU

The Husky volleyball team has their first NCC win of the season. So now what do they do?
Try to win the last match of the season and make it two consecutive NCC victories in a row to end out the season, obviously.
As New York Jets head coach Herman Edwards said in a media tirade a couple of weeks ago, “You play to win the game.” That’s exactly what the Huskies have been doing the entire season and nothing will change when they face North Dakota State University in Fargo Friday night.
The only difference for Friday’s tilt is that the Huskies are coming off an uplifting road win over the University of Nebraska-Omaha this past Saturday. Will this help SCSU? To put that answer in Minnesota speak, “You betcha.”
“We believe that the win from Saturday can be carried over to Friday,” first-year hitter Amy Burke said.
“Anytime you win it’s a great achievement that you’ve been working all year, and in practice for,” Angie Mayers, another first-year hitter for SCSU added. “We’re going to come out more intense because we won against UNO. We’re more confident than what we have been and we’re all looking forward to playing NDSU.”
“If we play as well as we did against UNO, with that same consistency and intensity, it will carry us to a win against NDSU,” junior Jane Backes said.
The Huskies first meeting with No. 17 NDSU at Halenbeck Hall ended in a 3-0 loss. However, the scores of each game were close (30-21, 30-28, 30-16), just like virtually every other Husky match this season.
Burke points out that the loss to NDSU earlier in the season could have been from lack of knowing what to expect.
“We didn’t really know what to expect from them the first time,” she said. “We’ve played against them, we’ve played with them, and now we know what they’re going to bring at us.”
Friday’s match also marks the beginning of Husky head coach Dianne Glowatzke’s retirement. It will be the final time she paces the sidelines for the Huskies after contributing 26 years of service and memories to the university. This team, which Glowatzke has noted has been one of her favorites because of their unity and dedication, feels that a win would be the best way to send her off.
“We want her to leave with a win,” Burke said. “I’m sure that’s one of her goals, and I hope we can give it to her.”
“It’s kind of like saying thank you,” Mayers said. “It’s us showing appreciation for what she’s done for us.”
It should be a great volleyball match Friday, and the perfect ending to a great career for coach Glowatzke.
