Two brothers die in backyard pond
Two brothers are dead and one in critical condition after falling through thin ice on a pond behind their home in Anoka County late Tuesday night.
Cody Ostendorf, 6, and Shawn, 5, died after being rushed to North Memorial Hospital. Their mother, Marie, pulled the 2-year-old from the pond. She found them around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday after she noticed them missing. She had first checked at a neighbor’s house and then looked around the pond with a friend.
Sheriff's deputies arrived and pulled the other two boys from the water. It is still unclear how long the boys had been in the pond.
Two women arrested in scheme
A woman and her mother have been arrested after an elaborate plan to hide the woman and her daughter from authorities and her ex-husband for over three years.
Patricia Bergstrom-Lowe, 39, and Patricia Ilene Bergstrom, 66, were arrested Saturday in a Sam’s Club parking lot in Eagan. In 2000, a court ordered shared legal custody of Ellaura, daughter of Bergstrom-Lowe and Dean Lowe. Instead, Bergstrom-Lowe took her daughter to Poland to supposedly visit friends and family.
She had not been seen in Minnesota for a long period of time and a surveillance team from the Ramsey County Sherriff’s Department and the FBI located, arrested and charged her with several counts. She is expected to be charged with additional counts of posession of a loaded weapon.
