Beaver trail to provide more safety, options for community
Published:
Monday, February 3, 2003
Between an impending war, various issues among the campus community and the recent tragedy involving some brave astronauts, it is sometimes hard to focus on the positive things in life.
So, detaching from all things dismal, we would like to recognize a recent positivity that has come to benefit both St. Cloud and the campus community: the newly-planned expansion of the beaver trail.
Whether the weather is hectic or perfectly clear, everyone can utilize this extra space for various types of exercise and activities.
There's so much variety in going outside and getting some fresh air. Whether it's winter time and a stroll is taken during a snowfall or if it's summer and bike rides can be taken, the expanded beaver trail is going to serve the public in many ways.
Many residents of St. Cloud know that options are quite limited at times. When a person is not working or in class, there is often a lack of positive, enriching and healthy activities for people in this community can participate.
The beaver trail may not be the entire answer to that problem, but at least it is an option open to the public that does not involve spending money or unnecessary consumption of food or beverages, such as many activities within and beyond SCSU campus require.
The beaver trail expansion will help people get outside when they want to defeat boredom or get their dose of cardiovascular activity, as well as serve as an alternative to the often crowded gyms.
Also, this new expansion is going to be safer than the previous construction of the historic trail. Instead of going downtown through the worrisome stoplights and traffic; bikers, rollerbladers and walkers will be able to take the expanded trail, which actually goes underneath the DeSoto Bridge.
When things get hectic and all a person can think about are past or impending tragedies and various accounts of stress, a great way to diverge from situations like those is to go out and get some exercise.
It may not be the answer to stress, but it is a positive addition to the menu of options in St. Cloud.
