Bush doing our dirty work
I've been holding my mouth for a long time hearing about how this war is for oil and Bush shouldn't do it for that and how bad he is for doing that.

But as my father once said, how is anyone going to believe what you're saying when what you're doing is completely the opposite. We all say we don't want a war for oil. But women and men both buy beauty products made from oil, clothes made from oil, drive big suv's that guzzle it and get nice and toasty warm from it. We, as consumers, love the stuff. If we woke up and saw how much oil we use we might go into shock from it.

What we don't realize is that our president is doing the dirty work for us. We don't want a war over oil and no one wants to see drilling in the arctic or anywhere else in the U.S. for that matter either. But I bet if we were paying five bucks a gallon for it we would be yelling for something to be done about it. We pay more for milk most of the time than oil and people are amazed about the high gas prices. If you are out there and say you don't want this war for oil (and let's not kid ourselves--that's what it really is) then I want to see all you spring break kids stay home this year instead of going on a jet (oil) or riding in a car (oil) so you can spend one week drunk in Mexico or wherever. That means no cruises and no trips to Florida.

I'm not making myself out to be a saint by blasting all of you out there. I love my TV just as much as the next guy, but at least I'm man enough to admit when my actions in daily life make it so someone else has to do the dirty work for me. Thanks, GW.

Reps stood up for rights
This letter is in response to Harold Kimball's letter published Thursday Jan. 30. Mr. Kimball is wrong--the College Republicans do not support any oppression of First Amendment rights. Instead, they are there for everyone. The UND incident should have been handled differently and that person should have been asked to leave SCSU property. Why he wasn't I don't know. As for the incident in Atwood, I was there and saw everything. The incident was brought to the student government. An attempted resolution stated: "All students and SCSU Organizations should have the right of freedom of speech and expression without the fear of physical harm and violence." Student Government did not pass this resolution. Why, I don't know. Ask your Student Government representatives. The College Republicans supported the resolution.
